Diglis Hub exists to foster wellbeing, support and inclusion across Diglis.
Once open, the hub will be a flexible, accessible space where the community can meet, learn, create and socialise. We will host cultural and recreational events, classes, clubs and social gatherings.
Beyond events, we will provide a home for local support services. Our aim is to create a financially sustainable, volunteer‑led centre that reflects the needs and aspirations of our neighbourhood.
The community building on the corner of Diglis Dock Road and Crossley Road was a planning condition of the Diglis Water estate (developed from 2008). For over a decade it has stood empty. After years of dialogue with Taylor Wimpey and the local planning authority, we are now closer than ever to securing the space for the community.
Taylor Wimpey submitted a planning application (ref. 26/00026/FUL) for a scheme that includes flats on the upper floors and a ground‑floor community space.
Diglis Hub trustees have been named on the draft Heads of Terms for the lease, ensuring the community’s interests are protected. We are working to ensure robust planning conditions are in place so that the community space is completed before any flats are occupied.

Our vision, shaped by community consultation in late 2023, is for a flexible, fully accessible space that can adapt to the community’s needs – from meetings and fitness classes to social events and support services.
Versatile space for tables and chairs or open activities.
Toilets with baby‑changing facilities and barrier-free access.
Suitable for preparing light meals and refreshments.
Space for equipment, tools, and children’s toys.
Plenty of power sockets and phone‑charging points.
Window blinds for privacy and external bike racks.
This vision has been backed by over 40 residents who attended our consultation event, and we continue to refine it as we move towards handover.
The journey to open Diglis Hub is gathering pace. With the planning application submitted and lease negotiations underway, we are now focusing on three key areas:
We are looking for people with skills in finance, legal, fundraising, community engagement, communications, health & safety, safeguarding and volunteer coordination. If you’d like to help shape the hub’s future, please get in touch.
We are researching grant opportunities and planning local fundraising events to cover set‑up costs and ensure the hub is financially sustainable from day one.
We want to hear your ideas for activities, services and partnerships that would make the hub a valuable asset for Diglis.
Subscribe to our newsletter for regular updates, follow us on Facebook, or drop us an email at info@diglishub.co.uk. We’ll also be holding community drop‑in sessions later in the year – watch this space for dates.
